Answer (1): Shadowfax - so intelligent he needed neither saddle nor bridle

Answer (2): any one of: "Into the West", "The Commitments" or "True Lies". The first two are lifts in Tower block flats in Dublin, the third was filmed in a hotel in downtown Los Angeles)
